A year of growth and creativity

It has been testing and challenging in all the right ways. I feel as though I have become a better writer in the last 12 months, as well as videographer. There were a few creative avenues I didn’t delve into as much as I wanted, but such is life.

Street fashion designs

I started creating designs for Get The Bag London (GTB Londonn) way back in 2019. The process has been a long and eventful one, but 2021 finally saw the designs come to life in the t-shirts, hats and tracksuits. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the clothes and happy to have my design skills put to use. They were not the only brand I worked with in 2021 as there were others who I created logos for and I am excited to see what these other brands produce over the coming years. This collaboration with GTB London is one I have loved and I am looking forward to seeing much more from this brand.

Poetry videos to tantalise your senses

“My work is something to be gifted to the world and added to the miraculous art that already exists out there.”

I managed to create some superb poetry videos (in my opinion) because I was able to execute the vision almost identical to how I envisioned it. With this, I learned some new skills and discovered ways of creating certain effects which can now be carried into upcoming projects.

2022 will see some new and interesting videos that I hope you will all enjoy, learn from and share. My work is something to be gifted to the world and added to the miraculous art that already exists out there.

Live poetry events post Covid Lockdown

“...That performance rust had to get brushed off quick fast...”

This was supposed to be my year of visiting event after event and perform on a regular basis. That didn’t happen as the 2020 lockdown carried on way into the year. But it was a necessity. However, I did manage to attend a few events and perform some pieces. That performance rust had to get brushed off quick fast and I was able to get into the swing of things quite swiftly.

I almost forgot how much I enjoy performing, but that fire was reignited. Although I only did four performances, including the one at my official book launch of The Inevitable Threesome, they were all extremely meaningful. The reception from the audience was well received and this gave me a sense of accomplishment. It also fuelled my desire to continue writing and performing. These are perfect networking events also and I met some fabulous poets and writers. Not as many as I would have hoped, but it is a start and I will continue, to make sure I am connecting with the right people.

My competitive spirit lives strong!

Another interesting part of this year has been entering competitions, both for story writing and poetry. This had me tap into another way of writing that I wasn’t used to. I spoke about entering competitions earlier this year and whether it is the right thing to do. For me it is definitely the direction I want to go. It has helped me with the speed of writing and depth of creativity that is needed to produce engaging pieces of work. And most of all I’ve enjoyed it.

My favourite competition was NYC Midnight flash fiction competition. I love story writing and I was challenged to pull together 1000 words in 48 hours. It is quite impressive what you can produce when under some serious time constraints. Because of this, I am more prepared to finish my compilation story book.

I entered a poetry competition for the John Peal Create. The competition was to write a poem with the subject being electricity. It could be interpreted in anyway you wanted to. The writing parameters were quite loose and easy to work with, below you can read my entry.

Ionised Duo

Anticipation as my heart beats, positive and negative particles collide

Every current pulsates expressively, generating unimaginable energy,

Yearning for the laws of physics to abandon their core principals.

Static, muscles vibrate with an impending explosion, awaiting the spark

Kinetic might elicits rising heat, dynamically charging my extremities

Surging power fondles my nervous mind, massaging eagerness deep.

Passive, I was not, the capacity for retaining a dangerously high voltage,

Emotions fused with the physical and I couldn’t deny the magnetism

Momentum increased, aligned with the considerable tension.

Neurons continual impulses manifest to a palpable ignition, eventually!

Yielding to ionic flow, provoking immense depolarisation of both entities,

Shock confronts my senses, juice streams and craved passions met…

…That kiss... was electric!

What will 2022 bring for Dyamund D and his Creations? (yes, I’m speaking in third person)

"...a new flavour to the written and visual art created."

So… I will be performing at several poetry and spoken word events. To help spread the delicate and spicy words of Dyamund D. If you manage to be where I be, then I will be blessing you ears with the sweet sounds of my voice.

Also, there are a few creative projects and collaborations in the pipeline. I will be working with other artists, to add a new flavour to the written and visual art created. Lastly, there will be at least one more book publication as it didn’t happen in 2021 as planned.

Thanks for coming along this journey with me, I appreciate each and every one of you. And I look forward to continuing this journey with you, side by side.

Stay blessed and keep on loving!

2021 is a year no one expected. The fact that you've still managed to achieve so much, especially when others are waiting for normality to return before they take action, is impressive and inspiring.

I especially enjoyed your flash competition entry. Pressure produces Dyamunds 😉

I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with this year.
